The Witr (odd
number) prayer is extra prayers that the Prophet practiced and highly
encouraged Muslims to practice as well. He (pbuh) never left it even when
traveling. You can offer Witr prayers anytime after ‘Isha’
until the time for Fajr prayer. You may choose to pray one, three, five,
seven, or nine Rak’ahs.
There are many different
dua’ that are used in the Qunoot of witr, usually based on different
hadeeths from the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah upon him. The Muslim
is not limited to this alone and can ask for anything that is khair for the
Muslims. Each imam makes dua’ in his own way, and does not necessarily follow a
certain word order or set of supplications.

Transliteration of Dua Qunut :
“Allah humma inna nasta-eenoka wa nastaghfiruka
wa nu’minu bika
wa na-tawa-kkalu alaika
wa nusni alaikal khair,
wa nashkuruka wala nakfuruka
wa nakhla-oo wa natruku mai yafjuruka,
Allah humma iyyaka na’budu wa laka nusalli
wa nasjudu wa ilaika nas aaa
wa nahfizu wa narju rahma taka
wa nakhshaa
azaabaka inna azaabaka bil kuffari mulhikun”

Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam taught me some words that I say during the witr. (in
the supplication of the witr.) They were:

wa tawallana fiman tawallait,
wa barikli fima Aatait,
wa qina sharra ma qadait,
innaka taqdi wa la yuqda alaik.
wa Innahu la yadhillu man walait
wa la ya'izzu man aadait,
Tabarakta Rabbana wa taalait
